So Lonely

I took in The Police in concert last night and man, am I glad I saw them at Churchill Downs. I had already took in another Police concert on this tour at Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee and I honestly was not impressed because of the lack of energy. Last night, however, was honestly a thousand times better than my first viewing. In TN the group, who I have loved since I was very young, acted like they were fighting, just like they did back in 1984. At Churchill, they seemed professional, relaxed and they seemed to enjoy themselves. Stewert Copeland was excellent and I encourage all drummers to see him in concert. He played an arrangement of percussion items such as timpani, hand chimes, marimba, and a gong! Their set was changed slightly from their set in TN and the energy was finally there. It was a fun night and as I walked through the paddock, I looked around to take note of all the age groups there. The Police really do seem to cross generations, such as Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and The Rolling Stones. There were all ages there, young, medium, and elder and everyone was having a good time....well except for the annoying old people sitting behind us who kept screaming at everyone to sit down. Most everyone stood on bleachers the entire concert.

* They opened with Message In A Bottle -- most excellent.
* The most enjoyed song by the crowd was obvious, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic.
* During Walking In Your Footsteps, they had awesome graphics of dinosaurs walking across the stage.
* Song most sung by the crowd, Do, Do, Do, Da, Da, Da
* Best version of a song, Wrapped Around Your Finger
* Best Light Show Song/Strangest version of song performed, Roxanne.

And the best part, my special 3D glasses were incredible under the stage lights and darkness of the famed Twin Spires.

All in all, The Police were tight, Andy Summers was again on another planet, Copeland rocked, and Sting didn't miss a note. (Oh and I forgot to mention that his son opened for them -- and the son also sounds like Sting, although they do not look anything alike, and the son plays bass too!

I was thinking last night that Gretchen and I have been to some great concerts, The Police, The Violent Femmes, Prince, The Cure, and we stood five feet from Dolly Parton.

Life doesn't get much better.
