Rehab

It's been a long morning already. I've done my time at work, bought a lawn mower, and am contemplating whether I should cut the grass.

I just got the new Amy Winehouse cd, Back To Black -- which is funny because I keep thinking it's called Back In Black, left over from my ACDC days. I have to say the album is brilliant! It reminds me of a genius mix of sounds from the 40-50-60's era. The song Back In Black is very similar to the beginning intro to Dianna Ross' Where Did Our Love Go. The recording sound on the drums is awesome, I love it. And you can hear bells, castinets, and all these random snare clicks throughout the album. The back lines all sound very big bandish with the horn section. (which reminds me I just got free tickets to see DCI, Drum Corps International, when they play Cardinal Stadium next week. I'm excited to see professional marching bands, yes I'm a geek.

You know and back on the Amy Winehouse issue, when I first heard her I thought she was going to look like a black singer from the 60's but she's this crazy looking gothic rocker chick. That, to me makes her ever so more likeable, who would've thought? I also, of course, love the song Rehab, and can completely relate. But you know, rehab is for quitters anyway, ha! The album also has this crazy remix version of the song and if you aren't a fan of the repitition process, then I would avoid it. Although, it's worth a listen for the effects thrown on the vocals at times and the crazy techno/house beat, for some reason it makes me want to do the robot.

I've also been digging the simplistic album Begin To Hope by Regina Spektor. Here's Why: In the song On The Radio, the lyrics read "On The Radio, We heard November Rain, that song is really long, but it's a pretty sound." That sealed the deal for me as a rocker, I like it. And to complete the cirle of this blog, the song November Rain has that cool marching band snare part at the end, which again reminds me that I'm excited to get free DCI tickets.

Enjoy this lovely day!
